Processing Photos on Mac

Background

In order to bulk upload images correctly to Snoofa, there are two key things to be aware of:

  1. Each image need to have a thumbnail. This is a smaller-sized version of the same image. The reason for this is there are various areas where we use the thumbnail because as it is smaller, the pages it is used on don’t take as long to load. An example of this is the catalogue in the administration, or the web catalogue.

  2. The images need to be in the correct folder structure. This is so Snoofa knows where to put the thumbnail images and where to put the full-sized images.

The good news is, we’ve come up with a system for use on Mac computers that does all of this work for you.

All you need to do is make sure the images are named correctly, select them in the Snoofa Photo App (SPA) and then upload them to Snoofa (more on that here). Then bingo, the images are uploaded.

Here is the Snoofa Photo App for Mac. You must download this before proceeding. It is the file attached to the bottom of this article named Snoofa Photo App.

When you first open the application in Automator, it may seem a little confusing. Fear not, below is an explanation of how to use it.

As an update, we have created another version of this app. Use this version to add re-sizing of the full-size images in addition to creating the thumbnails. It is the file attached to the bottom of this article named Snoofa Photo App v0.1.

Setting up this version of the app is exactly the same as the original.

Instructions

When you first use the SPA, there will need to be some simple configuration for your computer. Then it will be set up for to keep using. Here are instructions on how to do this. If you are having trouble with this, contact support@snoofa.com referencing SPA.

Within the folder you created in step 1, you should now have the .zip folder with all of the images.

This is now ready to upload to Snoofa

For more information about how that works, click here.

All the images will also be within the full and thumb folders. The images within these folders should be deleted to prevent issues with the next image process.

Think of it as cleaning up after yourself!
