CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), is an International agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species.

CITES is implemented within Europe through two regulations which categorise species into four Annexes,

from A-D. Most relevant to the antiques trade are Annex A and B. Annex A and Annex B species will always need an import or re-export permit to enter or leave the UK to or from a non-EU country.

At Snoofa, we have tried to make recording the CITES information on the system as simple as possible.

Recording CITES

When cataloguing your item, you will see at the bottom of the Item Details Page a box labelled CITES. You can then select from a dropdown list of pre-populated materials that have been set up in System Settings>General>Item Settings and/or you can type in a different material directly into the box. You can enter as many sensitive materials as needed for the item. Don't forget to Save your changes.

In Consignment (making sure CITES is selected in the column's filter), your materials will show in the CITES column. These details do NOT appear in the consignment printout.

Viewing CITES Items in the Catalogue

Once a material has been applied to an item, the CITES logo is displayed in the online auction catalogue in the top right corner. A pop-up explanation will appear when the logo is hovered over by the user.

CITES Licence Fees

The CITES licence fee can be set in System Settings>General>Invoice Settings.

It can then be applied to an invoice in the Invoice Parameters panel.
